Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj is a legend of Kathak dance. He is also an accomplished singer and multi-instrumentalist. He is the foremost modern exponent of Kathak and a direct descendant of a line of dancers going back for two centuries.

His 2007 US tour ended with his visit to Ananda Ashram in Monroe, NY. He says he always likes to keep this stop last in order to enjoy the serenity of the ashram unhurried.
As one of the gurus of Pandit Satya Narayana Charka, Director of the East-West School of Dance at Ananda Ashram, Maharaji comes to teach Charkaji’s countless students.
