A world-renown tabla player and educator, my friend Samirji is always up to something new and exiting. Here, he is giving a 2-hour educational program at “Raag aur Taal” program of the Columbia University Radio New York. They also broadcast live online and have Indian classical music Sunday mornings and evenings: http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/wkcr/.
From his vast knowledge, Samir is presenting us how the Raga mode/mood exists in music of many kinds, including non-Indian music like Japanese, Western, Gypsy etc. What an interesting collection of recordings and enlightening commentary..........

Samirji’s organization Chhandayan has information about his many activities including his annual “All Night Concert” in Manhattan., where prominent Indian artists are presented.
You can hear Samir’s tabla playing on the live concert recording “Lost in Bliss” with Kinnar Seen and Manu Seen, both on sitar, which I produced for the Society for Universal Sacred Music.
